Ashtadhyayi of Panini: Sanskrit Grammar

Aṣṭādhyāyī is the central part of Pāṇini’s grammar and by far the most comprehensive. The Ashtadhyayi is the oldest linguistic and grammar text of any language and of Sanskrit surviving in its entirety. It is a sutra-style treatise on Sanskrit grammar containing 3,959 verses or rules on linguistics, syntax, and semantics in eight chapters.

NCT Acharyulu was born into a traditional family, the fore-fathers being Vedic Scholars and Samskrit Pundits. He
had initial training in his boyhood under the tutelage of his father, a traditional Samskrit Pundit.
After completing University education, having obtained M.A. degree in Mathematics from Banaras
Hindu University, he joined the services of L.I.C of India at Hyderabad. While pursuing the
employment, he kept up his study of Samskrit literature. He was attracted to join a voluntary
organisation, Samskrita Bharathi, devoted to the spread of Samskrit language and became Founder-
Trustee of the same in the State of Andhra Pradesh. He served the organisation in the capacity of
President for more than 10 years.
He was drawn to the study of Samskrit Grammar and became a disciple of Sriman Samudrala
Srinivasacharyulu, a grammarian and retired lecturer in Samskrit Grammar at the T.T.D. Oriental
College, Hyderabad. In the last 15 years he taught Sanskrit Grammar to at least 150 students. Since
last 6 years he has been teaching Ashthadhyayi, on-line, through Advaita Academy, Hyderabad.

His contributions in teaching Sanskrit Grammar was recognised and honoured by organisations such
as Dept of Samskrit Studies, University of Hyderabad; Andhra Pradesh Samskrit Lecturers
Association; Ogeti Achyutaramasastry Samskrit Foundation and Telangana Vaishnava Seva Sangham.
