God and the Origin of the World in Hindu Philosophy by Manjushree Hegde
SPEAKERS
“Hindu philosophy” is a blanket term that comprises of immensely diverse opinions, vastly disparate convictions, and a veritable feast of viewpoints. A basic doubt that occupied many ancient Hindu philosophers was the very creation of the world: did someone make it? Was it a spontaneous emergence? Is there a God who knows what really happened? Maybe, as R̥gveda proclaimed, “Who really knows? Who will here proclaim it? Whence was it produced? Whence is this creation? … perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not – the one who looks down on it, in the highest heaven, only he knows – or perhaps he does not know.” In this segment of Weekend With Wisdom, Manjushree Hegde will discuss these and a great many other questions about epistemology, ethics, and everything in between.
