The Mindless Mind

A state of total happiness, paripoorna is a dream for some, an aim for some and a state for some. It does not happen overnight. A lot of effort needs to be put in towards achieving this state.
In the words of Swami Chinmayananda,

“It is a state that is reached after all thoughts are thoughted and no more thoughts are thoughting.”

How can anyone not have any thoughts? Sounds very frightening or weird maybe! But that is the most fascinating state that anyone can aspire for.

The mind is like a monkey. It keeps moving from one place to the
other and even in the same place cannot remain motionless. It is the intellect in us that governs the mind. This state of thoughtlessness is beyond the mind and the intellect. It is a state of oneness, no duality whatsoever. The mind or intellect can exist so long as there are two points to ponder about. When these two opposites merge into one, the mind ceases to exist. Without the mind that needs to be governed, the intellect also disappears.

The subject of duality is very stunning. The entire world is filled with pairs of opposites. Throughout our lives we keep accumulating these pairs, pampering one or the other. We hardly realize that we are dumping so many things that we are going to really find it a herculean task to clean the same.

Once this process starts, we do a fast job of it. But there again there are small hidden difficulties that we have to surmount. The nearer we reach the goal, the farther it seems. The state of ‘The Mindless Mind’ is achieved when the last vestige of duality disappears.
